Release Assumptions explained

Our imagination of the organization’s future is inhibited by assumptions, by what we see as constraints that bind us to the status quo and determine our movements. It is essential to challenge these by asking What is really true?

Exploring what is true and not true shapes constraints to be more productive. It frees us from the thinking that holds us back. It opens space for creativity. It widens the range of consideration. It releases us from unhealthy patterns that have become entrained.

This step involves exploration in a scientific tradition. Sample triggering questions include:

What have we consciously or unconsciously been assuming to be set in stone that could actually change?

What constraints are real versus artificial?

On what evidence are our perceptions of the organization and its circumstances based?

What contradictory evidence do we find if we alter our methods and vantage point?

Through this exploration, what leverage points for change are revealed?
